4.5 Flys

Some might say not knowing the Afghan Whigs is a bad thing; others, that
knowing the band exposes you as an old git. Either way, for those who never
heard anything by the Afghan Whigs, Greg Dulli may well be a new name.

‘Blackberry Belle’ is the second album by the Twilight Singers, a band which
operates on a similar basis to the Hidden Cameras or, er, the Fall: Dulli is
the creator, the rest of the band is cobbled together as required. Glorious writing and epic music, especially on opening track ‘Martin Eden’ and the stunning single, ‘Teenage Wristband, as well as moments of semi-acoustic beauty, make for an album which, criminally, will probably be passed-by in those end-of-year album polls. Anthemic, melodic, fulfilling and compelling: do NOT let this pass you by!
