Benefit for Russ Rosser

From Dave Rosser (Twilight Singers/Gutter Twins guitarist): Saturday, May 9 at Chestnut Station in Gadsden, Alabama I will be hosting a show to assist my brother Russ with his mounting medical bills following his career-halting accident. I’ll play with some old & new friends, possibly bring some talent from NOLA or others I work with, & maybe we’ll end up with a 30-person free-for-all jam at the end of the night, who knows? Still planning all this. Maybe Russ will, with gentle persuasion, get up…

The Afghan Whigs’ “Woman” on Myspace

At long last, you can hear the Afghan Whigs’ cover of John Lennon’s “Woman.” The track has been posted for streaming at the band’s Myspace page, along with a brief note explaining the song’s history. However, when the label heard that the Whigs version had been based on a sample of Phil Spector’s string and choral arrangement from The Beatles’ “The Long and Winding Road” they referred this matter to the Paul McCartney camp and permission was flatly denied. The band refused to change it…

Andi Starr Covers Martin Eden

Singer/songwriter Andi Starr included a cover of The Twilight Singers’ “Martin Eden” on her 2006 release Leaving the White Line. She uses the song as an intro and outro to her own Big Wreck’s “Under the Lighthouse.” Martin Eden/Under the Lighthouse [MP3 Sample] Purchase ANDI STARR: Leaving the White Line thx gg!

The Music of Rescue Me

Metro – Rock ’n’ roll to the rescue What kind of dialogue could possibly fit visuals of firefighters battling walls of flame as flashlight rays shine through blocks of smoke, trying in vain to find children burning within the building? If you’re Denis Leary and the show is “Rescue Me,” there’s nothing that any character involved in that scene could say. So instead of “Hey, I think there’s someone still alive in this room!,” he chose to play the full version of “The Lure Would…

Keep Your Soul: A Tribute To Doug Sahm

Keep Your Soul: A Tribute To Doug Sahm is available now. The album features Greg Dulli covering “You Was For Real” along with performances by Dave Alvin, Los Lobos and Alejandro Escovedo. The Santa Fe New Mexican had this to say: Most of the artists on the CD — including Dave Alvin, Alejandro Escovedo, and Delbert McClinton, all of whom provide worthwhile interpretations — are no big surprise. But somehow I’ve never associated the music of Greg Dulli (The Afghan Whigs, The Twilight Singers) with…
