Duff McKagan on Scott’s Benefit

On the Road. Again… – Seattle Music – Reverb Last Saturday night in Los Angeles, I was honored to take part in a benefit concert for Gutter Twins bassist Scott Ford at the Roxy Theater. He, like many of my musical brethren, goes through life without basic health insurance. Along with the other necessities like rent, food, and schooling for his child, the weight of his financial burden has caused some wobbling in a few places. Scott got very sick this year, and was forced…

Amy Farris, Rest in Peace

Greg Dulli and Twilight Singers collaborator Amy Farris passed away over the weekend. The forty-year-old strings player provided the brilliant fiddle accompaniment on Dulli’s cover of Doug Sahm’s “You Was for Real” and had laid down viola, violin and cello parts for the upcoming Twilight Singers album. In lieu of flowers, Amy’s family encourages friends and fans to send a donation in her honor to Hungry For Music, Inc, a nonprofit effort to provide musical instruments to at risk children. Update – The Twilight Singers…

Summer’s Kiss Review – Doubtful Sounds

Doubtful Sounds | 3 Stars The Afghan Whigs were one of the exceptions to the rule for 90s rock. They were the dark horses that never quite fit into the Seattle sound or the indie slacker vibe of bands like Pavement. They worshipped at the altar of rock, soul and R’n’B and with Greg Dulli’s confessional singing and brutally naked lyrics they sidestepped major success while at the same time developing a loyal and dedicated fan-base. Summer’s Kiss is a labor of love, a tribute…

(Are You Afraid of the Dark?), these raging, brooding, crooning alt-rockers recorded what was considered Italy’s counterpart to Nevermind. They later collaborated and toured with Afghan Whig/Twilight Singer/Gutter Twin Greg Dulli. Charles Aaron/Spin August Also in Afterhours news: Spin’s Earth TV featured a recent Afterhours performance in Rome. Profile on Afterhours from PRI’s The World.

Summer’s Kiss Review – American Songwriter

3.5 Stars by Evan Schlansky The Afghan Whigs, for the uninducted, were sonic vampires before vampires were cool. A seminal ’90s band on the same label as Nirvana, superstardom eluded them. But during a time when Nine Inch Nails could have a pop hit with the noir-ish, depraved “Animal,” the dark-hearted Whigs were able to co-exist, and briefly thrive. Emotive guitars and spitfire drumming propped up self-lacerating lyrics that cut to the heart of modern relationships, delivered in frontman Greg Dulli’s inebriated yowl. “I’ve got…
