Broken Social Scene

From a recent Broken Social Scene review at Newsday:

“Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day)” sounds like a ’90s alternative retrospective with Dinosaur Jr., Afghan Whigs and Pavement smashed into each other.

New Moon Maan Tracks Online

You can hear three new Moon Maan tracks at the band’s Myspace site. There are rough mixes for “Yesterday’s Fool” and “Crows” and a new demo called “You Ought To Know.”

The band’s next show is at Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis on February 2nd.

Headlights Giveaway Update

You may remember that there was an “Amber Headlights” pre-order contest with a drawing for a Fender Stratocaster, autographed by Greg Dulli. A big round of congratulations goes to Jeremy Devlin of Everett, WA for winning the big prize.

Thanks to everyone who wrote in asking the status of the contest.

Twilight Access Updated

A new batch of questions and answers are up at The Twilight Singers’ Access page. Topics include Dulli’s guitar setup, his love for Italy, and what happened to the long-lost Whigs film. 11 questions, 11 answers. Very cool.

Powder Burns Hype - Under the Radar

Thanks to Brian for scanning and sending in this clipping from the current issue of Under the Radar magazine. The following is from their 2006 preview and hypes Powder Burns and the Gutter Twins debut.

Highlights:

Speaking of that Whigs retrospective, here’s a clip from a 2004 Dulli interview with IndianapolisMusic.net:

IMN: Do you still feel attached to any sort of Afghan Whigs legacy, or is it something you’re ready to move beyond?

Dulli: I am a proud alumnus of the unbreakable afghan whigs.

Mighty Fine EP

Former Whigs vocalist Steve Myers’ band Mighty Fine has wrapped up the recording phase of their EP “The Dirty Sessions.” The band expects a Mardi Gras release through online e-tailer The Orchard.

Mighty Fine will be playing at the Delancey in NYC this Saturday (1/21).

Gentlemen Makes Overlooked List

RED Magazine - 100 Overlooked Albums

Red Magazine put together a list of 100 albums wrongfully left out of Rolling Stone’s top 500 albums of all time list. The first album mentioned is The Afghan Whigs’ Gentlemen.

Klein’s Perfect 10

Jeff Klein picks his “Perfect 10″ tracks at TuneTribe.com, including a Twilight number.

Teenage Wristband - The Twilight Singers

“Ok. So maybe I’m biased, but put this song on while you’re driving in your car and tell me you don’t feel more alive than ever before. Greg Dulli can set a mood and a scene better than Martin Scorsese can, my friends. This is dark, soulful rock & roll. Not to mention Apollonia sprinkling her spine tingling voice all over it.”
