Uptown Review at Rhino.com
Rhino.com reviews Uptown Lights.
It didn’t matter so much what Uptown Lights were playing, but how they were playing it—fast and loose, freewheeling and easy-dealing, which, like class clowns who are really ace students, couldn’t mask the depth of the arrangements and busy instrumentation, both going a long way toward a jaw-dropping performance.
News Roundup
Dulli is interviewed in an article on the reopening of the Roosevelt hotel bars. The project was organized by Amanda Scheer Demme, wife fo the late Ted Demme, and friend of Dulli.
Now Playing Magazine has a great review of the recent Uptown Lights shows.
Moon Maan has added a new date to their gig calendar: July 14 in Fargo, ND with Violent Femmes at Playmakers.

Recommended: Petra Haden Sings the Who Sell Out
When Pete Townshend calls an acapella re-imagining of The Who’s classic album “Exquisite” that’s good enough for me.
Most Twilight Singers listeners know Petra from her multi-instrument work on Blackberry Belle. She’s also a touring member of The Decemberists and led the 90s group that dog. But lately, she’s been getting a lot of attention for Petra Haden Sings the Who Sell Out, a delightfully odd all-vocal tribute. It may seem kitschy at first; but it actually makes for excellent listening. She provides an intense breakdown of the sometimes dense original instrumentation creating a refreshing, unique listening experience that stands on its own.
For those of you in the LA area, Petra will be performing the album live with an all-female choir on July 1 at the Ford Ampitheatre.
Dulli at Silver Lake Benefit
Greg Dulli, Charlie Haden, Flea, and Tracy Chapman (among many others) attended a benefit for the Silver Lake Conservatory of Music last week. From Rollingstone.com:
Among those on hand to lend support were Greg Dulli, Perry Farrell and Incubus’ Mike Einziger. After watching some of the students perform, Farrell said he’d be coming back to the school “because I need a cellist.” Dulli said, “I’m probably going to end up taking piano lessons here. I’d like to learn how to play classical piano” . . .

Twilight DVD Auction Update
The Twilight Singers bootleg DVD auction has ended early. The following was received from Twilight Management:
“To all of you nice people who bid on the DVD auction: We never thought that the demand would be so overwhelming and it was NOT our intention to gouge anyone – we want the fans to have this and we are working on a way to make that happen. We ended the auction early and will be shipping the DVDs out over the next week or so. These will be hand numbered and hand stamped so they will always be a rare item (I think we made only 200 for the tour so less than 300 have been made). We are working furiously on a way to get these made more efficiently – it’s not as easy as it may seem for a variety of reasons. We will make sure that everyone who wants one will be bale to get one. Please check back here in a few weeks for an announcement, and thanks for all of your support.”
