Flickr: Twilight Singers Wallpaper
Just browsing through the stacks at Flickr, when I found this gem. I believe this was a promo from the original Columbia Twilight Singers site; but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it.
Click the “All Sizes” link for a suitable 1024 x 768 image.
Also at Flickr, a cameraphone shot of Dulli from the August show in London.

The Twilight Singers have announced their lineup for the October 2004 shows. I’ll let you handle the translations.

SK Limited Merch
The Summer’s Kiss Store has gone through a re-program, and is back with a new design. The catch? The current logo (let’s call it “Elk/Mixtape”) will only be available through October 31. After that, the plug will be pulled and no additional shirts with this design will be shipped. They are printed to order, so there will be no overstock or unsold lots.
Proceeds from merch sales directly benefit Summer’s Kiss. Orders are processed through CafePress.
Rare Afghan Whigs CDs
You can buy rare Afghan Whigs CDs at EIL.com. Their list constantly changes based on the stock of suppliers; but I’ve found several gems here over the years. They currently have promos for 1965 and Black Love, various Debonair, Gentlemen, and Somethin’ Hot singles, and selected bits of vinyl. Many of these releases are down to only one in stock.
They also have a small Twilight Singers selection, with a good price on the Feathers 7″ single.

Mark Lanegan in Car Accident
Mark Lanegan, friend and frequent collaborator with Greg Dulli, was injured in a car accident in Los Angeles on September 21. This forced Lanegan to cancel seven upcoming East Coast tour dates. Lanegan was not at fault and was not seriously hurt.
The Gutter Twin is expected to return to the road Oct. 10 in San Diego, touring through the end of the month.
She Loves You - 75 or Less
I never appreciated the Afghan Whigs until I moved away from Cincinnati and their incessant white-trash-soul whining, but now I miss them, and now Greg Dulli’s singing covers (Björk!?) with Mark Lanegan. It’s more romantic and less sexy than the Whigs, but there’s the nagging feeling I’ve been conned into listening to adult contemporary music. If Dulli’s looking for a love/hate relationship, he’s found it. - bryan b.
Staggering Statistics at MPMF
John Curley’s Staggering Statistics will be playing this Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004 at Crush as part of Cincinnati’s Midpoint Music Festival. Show time is 11PM and admission is free with your festival badge or $5 at the door. Campfire Crush is also on the bill.
The band is planning to have their freshly pressed CDs for sale at the show. The tracks are currently available for free download at the band’s site; but the physical artifact contains full artwork and a hidden bonus track.
As a part of MPMF, John Curley will be part of an Engineer/Producer discussion panel at 1 pm on Saturday, Sept. 25.
The Stats are working on a few Cincinnati shows for October and November and are also trying to put together a road trip with Ruby Vileos. Bloomington and Chicago, IL and NYC/Hoboken are likely destinations.

Gentlemen (Album) Tabs
I’ve been reluctant to add a Tabs section to Summer’s Kiss, even though it’s been one of the most requested features.
The main reason is that there is a lot of room for interpretation with the Afghan Whigs catalog. Inevitably, people feel that published versions are incorrect, and that the songs sound more accurate when played their way. As a guitarist, I know this dilemma all too well, and I simply don’t have the resources to fact-check every tab that gets submitted to the site.
Truth be told, there are a number of resources out there that contain unofficial Afghan Whigs tabs. From time to time, I’ll spotlight them here.
The first entry is a selection of songs from Gentlemen, archived at Fretplay.com.
If you have any corrections or additions to those published, feel free to drop them in the comments to help guide other players.
Use the contact form if you’d like to submit your favorite tab resource for a future installment.
