Dulli ABC Interview

You can check out an interview with Greg Dulli on ABC (Australia) radio online. Highlights include a discussion of the Afghan Whigs opening up for the Flaming Lips in 1987. Hard to imagine Greg as Wayne Coyne’s roadie. You even get a little bit of Clyde (Greg’s cat) chiming in at the end of the piece, which was cut short due to neighborhood evacuations in response to the November wildfires.

From the Archives - Citybeat’s Coverage of 1965

Nothing new today, so let’s take a dip in the archives.

1965In ‘98, Cincy’s Citybeat published two long format pieces on the Afghan Whigs, in celebration of the album 1965.

Ah, 1998. Let’s all take a moment to remember: The band had released their most upbeat and accessible album. “Somethin’ Hot” was high on the college radio charts. The tour that followed was unbelievably good - every night, and lasted a full year.

Without further reminiscing:
1965 - Track by Track
· Probably the longest review of 1965, analyzing each song for “Party Factor,” “Dark Recesses Factor,” and “Memorable Line.”

· A good primer for those not versed in the pre-Twilight age.

SK Radio Suggestions

sk radioI’m putting together the playlist for Summer’s Kiss Radio, with a tentative air date for later this month.

If there’s something you’d like to hear, let me know. The show will focus on b-sides, rare tracks, live material, and related work from the Twilight Singers, Afghan Whigs, and Greg Dulli.

Send an email with your requests.

Happy Birthday Greg!

Can’t let today pass by without recognizing Mr. Dulli, born on this day in 1965.

To celebrate, pour yourself a glass of Maker’s Mark, or mix up a Greg Dulli cocktail, put on the May 10, ‘96 Portland Show (in which Greg begins celebrating at midnight), and invite over the neighbors. Enjoy.

-Thanks to Mala for the reminder!
