Death Cab for Dulli
In a Seattle P-I interview, Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard had this to say about his influences:
“I think the music I write and the music we play has an emotional weight to it. And the bands that I’ve always related to and loved, like Red House Painters or Afghan Whigs, are bands that write intellectual love songs.”
Death Cab is currently promoting their new album, Transatlanticism.
Curley & Horrigan Support Almond
Former Afghan Whigs members John Curley and Michael Horrigan will be backing Todd Almond Saturday night at the Southgate House in Cincinnati. The show is a CD release party for both Almond, who starred in the local production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and headliners Ruby Vileos.
New Orleans - One Eyed Jacks - Tonight
Safe travels to all those headed out to the last scheduled Twilight Singers show of the spring. New Orleans is always a great city to visit; but when the band is in town, it’s something special.
One Eyed Jack’s is the former Shim Sham Club, located at 615 Toulouse St. Ah, memories. Tickets are day of show only (yep, today); but you’ll probably have a wait if you show up before mid-afternoon.
The postponed Seattle and Portland shows remain to be scheduled.

For your consideration: A review of the Twilight Singers show in London. An obvious fan, the review is raving and the writing excellent. The fabulous part, however, is the illustrations. You’ve got to check this out.

Looking Forward to GT
In a recent interview, Greg had this to say about the Gutter Twins tour:
The next time “we tour, we will perform songs from the Gutter Twins, the Twilight Singers, Mark’s solo stuff, the Screaming Trees, the Afghan Whigs — and any other covers that we’ve done along the way,” says Dulli. “We’ll be able to pick from a couple hundred songs.”
What back cataglog tunes from these guys would you want to hear live? Which old songs would benefit most from the collaboration? Keep it short (less than 5 songs) and leave a comment.
