Shake Your Black Love

Following The Afghan Whigs’ amicable breakup, Greg Dulli drowned his sorrows by tending bar and tending to his life. Then a small earthquake hit Los Angeles and Dulli was jolted back into action, prompting a writing spree that he’d never experienced before. Adam Lauridsen caught up with rock’s coolest player and talked with him about first kisses, moving plates and the new Twilight Singers record.

For those of you not lucky enough to get your hands on The Twilight Singers’ The Killer Teenage Wristband EP, you can now stream the tracks here at SK.

Launch the Killer Teenage Wristband

Whoa! That was more popular than I anticipated. 3.6 Gigs of bandwidth in 26 hours. Enough to shut the site down for the afternoon. I’ll find a better way to present these songs. The player will return.

TS Article in DIW

There is a new Twilight Singers article and interview with Greg Dulli in the current issue of DIW magazine (issue 5.3).

Subscribers also get a 7″ single with an exclusive TS track, “Wicked.” The single is not available at the newsstand and is not available via back issue.

Of note in the interview, nearly 50 songs were recorded in the Blackberry sessions.

You can read the article here at SK.

FHM Sept 03

As frontman for Cincinnati’s Afghan Whigs, Greg Dulli personified the soulful storyteller with an undercurrent of dark humor. Six albums worth of stylish debonair rock led to an altogether friendly break up, with Dulli regrouping and collaborating with various musicians to create the Twilight Singers, whose new album Blackberry Belle serves as a lush extension of the Whigs’ end direction. Greg sat down with Kris Chen to discuss favorite records, cover songs, and the definitive statement on Tupac.

Currently at FHM, not yet archived.

Official Twilight Singers Street Team

Birdman/One Little Indian have started a Twilight Singers street team. I’ve talked with Ginger, the team leader and it seems like it could be pretty cool. They’re giving away free TS stuff as an incentive for joining. It’s good to see the labels putting this together to promote the band, tour, and album. Check it out and get some free swag.

TS Dates Postponed

No word as to why; but the Seattle and/or Portland Twilight Singers dates have been postponed.

Update - The shows were postponed due to logistics. The west coast dates will now be at the END of the tour, rather than the beginning. Don’t worry, Seattle and Portland WILL get shows. Just later, rather than sooner.

TS Release Announced in NY Times

TWILIGHT SINGERS A name behind which the Afghan Whigs’ singer Greg Dulli makes whatever kinds of albums he wants to make. “Blackberry Belle” is slightly grandiose pomp-rock, with Mr. Dulli’s whispery voice feather-dusting the songs. Like, say, Tom Petty, but along entirely different music-business models, Mr. Dulli is finally a guy who simply knows how to make music that feels good in the ear. Oct. 14. Birdman.
