WHFS to El Zol

One of the country’s last great modern rock stations disappeared yesterday.

On January 12 at noon, Washington DC’s WHFS became El Zol, switching their format from new rock to salsa, meringue, and bachata.

WHFS was a long-time supporter of The Afghan Whigs, and the band made several appearances at the station’s HFSfestival concerts.

You can hear the last minute of WHFS in its old format (Jeff Buckley’s “Last Goodbye”) here: http://www.hfstival.com/. There’s also a petition and links to more information.
