The Twilight Singers draw their much-too-short North American tour to a close tonight, with a homecoming show at El Ray in Los Angeles. Dirty Little Secret and Up The Dose will be opening.

Anyone know what time Dulli takes the stage tonight?
Just called the El Rey and they are saying 10:30 PM
I need a few minutes to shake off the somewhat harrowing drive home, so here’s a little recap of the show…
But, before I begin, I must thank Joe for being such a gentleman (you’re beautiful too… mwah!).
Too Tough To Die
A Love Supreme
Feeling of Gaze
The Twilite Kid
That Bird Sings
Black is the Color…
Black Love (not played)
When You Sleep
My Curse (sung by Susan Marshall)
Sidenotes of possible interest to y’all:
Greg dedicated “A Love Supreme” (and the entire show) to Clyde, who passed away two weeks ago.
Referenced Happy’s showing on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” by saying something like “Just call him ‘thousand dollar Chichester'” before “That Bird Sings.”
Greg did a fine Tori Amos impression after he got behind the keys.
We were also treated to little bits of “Photograph,” “The Rose,” “Beth,” and “Love Hurts.” When I read that Greg had been throwing “Photograph” into the mix, I didn’t see how it would work… but it does in a weird sort of way.
Oh, and I didn’t see any DVD’s at the merch booth.
I’m sure I missed a few things, so feel free to chime in, folks… it looked like a full house, so I know there are plenty of you out there to contribute, too.
Aha – so that’s why they soundchecked ‘My Curse’ in Eugene. Lucky LA…
What is the Superstar track on the setlist? Is it a cover (The only one can think of is the Carpenters song that Sonic Youth covered)? Or a new track?
They had the DVD at the merch booth, at least at the start of the set. Came in the white sleeve.
Fantastic show, imo they sounded the best of the 4(!) in LA in the past year.
superstar is the carpenters song. saw it in sf ….good stuff.
come on now ladies and gents, sounds like we are describing a carpenters show here…
for the uninitiated, the singers shocked and amazed all at the elrey theatre in beautiful downtown los angelas, california ayer in la noche.
like a vintage 12 cylindar ferrari, greg and the boys just keep on gettin better with age.
not only did they rip the guts outta every track they played, they did so with class, style, and verve.
i defy ANY band of 20 somethings to cook it up like chef dulli and crew, and, like charlie murphy says, make sure your people are there to see it. go ahead, challenge him…
millie grazie goyo, for the most wonderful rock concerto i ever been to, your man, the tonestar
moody, boozy and dripping with sex…
thank you g*dog.
fuck…i would have paid just to see/hear the whigs tracks! WOW! and to think that that may be the last time we ever hear those songs live…ouch.
i have to say that when a band can make grown men squeel like lil’ girls, they must be doing something right!
for some reason i left the elrey sad and a bit confused…why, better yet,how can a band be so relavent in emotion to everyone that gets the chance to ever hear dulli’s words and music, yet so overlooked by so many people?
don’t get me wrong i enjoy the thought that i am in some special-secret club that meets only when king dulli is in town, but at the same time,i wish the frequencies would travel further out into the universe…anyhow,be good.
wowzers, i’m still drunk. i was the guy who got dissed on the hand touch by susan. shades of the last whigs show at the palace. i met some fans that live nearby (the mutha f’n vta for those of you in the know) and that was the highlight of show for me. what great night. cheers dulli.
I missed the last Twilight Singers appearance and two minutes into this show I was reminded what a colossal error that was. Without fail GD’s music grabs me by the throat and throttles me until my rump is shaking and there’s a big ol’ smile on my face. A Twilight Singers show should be required entertainment; its the kind of kick in the pants any 9 to 5’er needs every once in awhile.
Can someone tell me who did the song “Faded” or where I can get a copy of it. Thanks, I saw them in Philly and loved the song. Much appreciated
“Faded” is from The Afghan Whigs “Black Love” album.
You can get “Black Love” and any of the Afghan Whigs albums new or used at these sites.
In the past, AW & TS will sometimes play a different intro. before “Faded”. The Philly Setlist says the song “Beth” by KISS was played before “Faded”.
Hope this helps.
