Sounds Like: Afghan Whigs
CD Baby (an online record shop specializing in independent artists) has a great feature: Sounds Like. “Name a famous artist, and we’ll find you some artists we think you’ll like!”
So, on a whim, I tried Afghan Whigs and got a page full of results.
Highlights:
53 Days – “High energy, radio friendly rock n roll with an Americana twinge – think the Afghan Whigs meet U2 and Tom Petty with Mellancamp hanging around.”
Mytwilightpilot – ” Mixing the quiet and subtle atmosphere of Bedhead, the sonic white noise of Mogwai, and the sexiness of the Afghan Whigs…”
Blue Star Creeper – “it reminds me of the Afghan Whigs” (reviewer)
Stepford Five – “With obvious nods to influences the Afghan Whigs, Catherine Wheel and Dinosaur Jr.”
Check ’em out, or if you’ve heard any of these bands, post a comment and let us know the verdict.
I bought the first Stepford Five album a while back. It’s definately got a Whigs sound to it but it’s pretty average.
the second one is better, more rock.
