Order The Afghan Whigs'
New Album: In Spades

Glasgow 04 Review

The Razz – TWILIGHT SINGERS King Tut’s. Glasgow, Jan 31.

Scottish Daily Record
By Doug Johnstone.

The former front man of Nineties grunge soul outlaws Afghan Whigs, Greg Dulli is fronting a blistering new outfit and the high levels of showmanship remain. Dulli and as his incredibly tight band fired through the best parts of The Twilight Singers’ second album, Blackberry Belle.

He alternately hollered and crooned like there wasno tomorrow as well as
regularly cajoling the crowd and generally creating an atmosphere approaching meltdown.

The sound is a near-perfect blend of soul and rock music, and songs such as opener Esta Nocheand The Killer prove the two genres can be mixed successfully.

The Twilight Singers’ sound goes much deeper than that, though, as their list
of amazing cover versions proved.

Songs by Marvin Gaye, The Zombies and Fleetwood Mac all got the Dulli
treatment in a two-hour set, and, bookended with old Afghan Whigs songs, their
encore of Outkast’s Hey Yaw as one of the most roof-raising cover versions ever.

Dulli actually came out for the encore in a kilt and waving a glass of whisky
around. A simply brilliant night.
