Gentlemen Outtakes (Part 1)

Bob Gendron, the man who (literally) wrote the book on Gentlemen will be sharing some of his favorite quotes, facts and anecdotes that were not included in his book with Summer’s Kiss. Today is part one of the series, that will run throughout the week. On Wednesday, we will publish a Q&A with Bob. If you have any questions that you’d like him to answer, contact us and send in your request.

In some cases, I had quotes or short stories that, for one reason or another, didn’t make the final cut. Call them outtakes. Here’s a great example, with Greg Dulli talking about an incident where he’s provoked onstage in Seattle during the Congregation tour. –Bob Gendron

Greg Dulli: “There’s this dude in the front. To me, dude in front means you really want to meet me. He’s standing in the front with his two friends. And then he just started making faces at me and whispering things to his friends and laughing. It makes you think: ‘Do I have a booger hanging out of my nose or something like that?’ And then he takes his drink–and I remember it was a screwdriver or something like that because it was orange—-and just looks at me and pours it on my fucking [guitar] pedal. Now, that’s fucking disrespectful. So much so that I took a step back so I could get a nice bit of leverage, and I kicked him in the face so hard that I broke his glasses and his nose, and I heard, maybe a part of his cheekbone. He was a bloody mess. Audience members only saw that, not what made me do what I did. Then I had girls start crying. And I’m a fucking monster and blah blah blah. Meanwhile, we’re loading out, and here comes the dude and his two friends. We had a sawed-off baseball bat with electrical tape around it in the back [of the van]. I’ve got my hand on that. I’m like, ‘This ain’t going any further. I will fuck all three of you guys up.’ The guys start pushing the dude up: ‘Go ahead, go ahead.’ [Speaking in a muted puppy dog voice]: ‘Sorry Greg.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, you’re forgiven.’
