Brooklyn 06 Review – CMJ
Judging by last night’s Twilight singers show, Greg Dulli’s vices have been good to him. Puffing on cigarettes and downing drinks, Greg led the band through fan favorites (“I’m Ready”, “There’s Been An Accident”) and an assortment of covers . Former Screaming Trees singer and sometime Queens of The Stone Age collaborator Mark Lanegan joined the band for a handful of songs including a searing cover of the Leadbelly classic made famous by Nirvana, “Where Did You Sleep Last Night”. The band took the audience on a dark night of the soul through a haze of alcohol and nicotine. All raw nerves and desperation, The Twilight Singers may have a soulful tinge but they are anything but easy listening but they had the crowd begging for more. Dulli’s swagger and pathos would have put a smile on Bukowski’s face as he pranced around the stage guitar in hand and cigarette in mouth. He even played some organ during the encore medley of “Lovestoned/The Killer/Wolf Like Me”. Other standouts of the evening included a cover of Echo And The Bunnymen’s “The Killing Moon” and a devastating rendition of “Amazing Grace”.
