Afghan Whigs Give It Another Shot

Few humans succeed at looking as smug as Greg Dulli and it’s his swagger that is largely responsible for the love them/hate them attitude that greets The Afghan Whigs whenever their name is mentioned.
In an unexpected turn of events, Dulli announced this week that he will be getting back together with his ex-Whigmates to record some new songs. In a year that has seen more bands attempting to score a knockout during round two than new acts stepping into the arena for the first time, the Whigs will probably find themselves to be a welcome addition to the reunion list of ’06.
The band will be heading to Ardent Studios in Memphis to work with Jeff Powell, who was responsible for three Whigs albums; Gentlemen, Black Love and 1965. The plan is to record two new songs that will be included on a forthcoming Afghan Whigs retrospective that Rhino will be releasing in March or April of 2007.
With any luck the band will find themselves enjoying each other’s company and working on more material. Let’s hope so.
