Phonogram, a new comic miniseries released this week has an interesting Afghan Whigs connection. The characters drop lines from the album Gentlemen throughout the debut issue entitled “Without Your Permission.” The back of the comic contains a “glossary” for all of the music references and includes this bit directly on the Whigs:

Nineties American Guitar Rock band with a heavy soul influence. Greg Dulli’s lyrics are…well, put it like this: if we ever have a girl child, the day she starts menstruating we’ll hand her a copy of Gentlemen and tell her “Honey – listen to this. This is what men are like. Stay away.” You can start there, too.
