Volatile Apples -> New Music Revolution
4 out of 5
Twilight Singers, alt. rock legend Greg Dulli’s current outfit, dropped the amazing ‘Powder Burns’ on May 15, 2006 to a world ready for an Afghan Whigs revival. ‘Powder Burns’ is a record set up for fans of Dulli’s former faction Afghan Whigs all the way to those who have no clue about alternative rock before 2001. Featuring songs with heavy guitar riffs matched with heavy synth lines, it is easy to fall into love and fall into dancing at the same time while listening to this record. Dulli definitely delivers with this record, and despite half a decade away from the Afghan Whigs Dulli’s music still has a grasp on the concept of alternative rock. By no exception, this album is not a masterpiece; ‘Forty Dollars’ marks the album with a weak spot featuring dusty Beatle’s lyric references. Nevertheless, being the fourth album in Dulli’s side project, this is a grand record full of interesting musical choices; it also features former Afghan Whigs alumni John Curley. Do yourself a favor and spend an evening with Twilight Singers ‘Powder Burns’, you will be pleasantly surprised at how certain things DO get better with time.
