Amber Headlights – CMJ
They incorrectly refer to the album as “Amber Lights.”
To accept Greg Dulli’s music, one must accept certain things. For example, this is man who’s going to give songs grizzled, solipsistic titles like “Cigarettes” and “Golden Boy.” He’s going to romanticize adolescent joyrides while belting white soul over a growling rock riff. And, yes, lines about being God’s second son and record-ending piano ballads will be part of the package. It’s all the same sexily misunderstood fodder he’s been plumbing since the Afghan Whigs, but nobody does it like Dulli, and Amber Lights is yet another excellent run through his wild, oftdecadent jungle.
