It didn’t matter so much what Uptown Lights were playing, but how they were playing it—fast and loose, freewheeling and easy-dealing, which, like class clowns who are really ace students, couldn’t mask the depth of the arrangements and busy instrumentation, both going a long way toward a jaw-dropping performance.
